FAQ's
What is a neck lift?
In the simplest terms, a neck lift is the excision of excess skin and tightening of neck tissues to improve neck aging.
How much does a neck lift cost?
The cost of a neck lift can depend on whether an overnight stay at the hospital is required with surgery. A neck lift with an overnight stay is approximately $17,300.00. A neck lift without an overnight stay is approximately $16,500.00. Dr. Wendel will determine whether an overnight stay is required at your consultation appointment.
What is included in the cost of the procedure?
The cost of your neck lift includes all pre-op and post-op appointments, pre-admission testing (except for an estimated $25.00 fee for the reading of the EKG results by a cardiologist), anesthesia, the surgery and surgical materials, facility fees, as well as any post-op supplies. Prescription medication, pathology, laboratory, radiology, and any other services that may be rendered is not covered in the cost of surgery. Prescription medication is not dispensed by Dr. J.J. Wendel Plastic Surgery.
What happens at my initial consultation?
During your consultation with Dr. Wendel, he will discuss your goals, the nature of the necklift, and what you can expect in regarding recovery, complications, and scars. After talking with Dr. Wendel, you will meet with our surgery scheduler to discuss cost and scheduling of surgery.
How long does a neck lift take?
On the day of your surgery, you can expect to be at the surgery center for around 4-6 hours. The necklift procedure itself takes approximately 2 hours. The remaining time will be spent preparing you for surgery, administering anesthesia, and preparing you to go home or your admission to the hospital if overnight stay is required.
What is the recovery process like?
Since you will be administered general anesthesia, you will need someone to drive you home from the surgery center and stay with you for 24 hours after the surgery. You will wear surgical dressings and drain for the first 24 hours. Most patients can return to work in 10-14 days depending on the type of work you perform.
What kind of scars will I have?
The incisions for a neck lift are located under the chin as well as in front of and behind the ears. The face is typically very forgiving when it comes to scarring from surgical incisions.
After the initial consultation, how many more visits will I make to your office before the surgery?
In addition to the initial consultation, you’ll return to the office for a pre-operative appointment. At this appointment, you will discuss any additional questions, details of the surgery, review pre- and post-op instructions, and medications. The prescriptions will be sent to your pharmacy electronically. You will also have pre-operative photos taken for your medical chart. You will also return for a 1 week, 2-week, 8 weeks, and 3-month follow-up appointment. It is likely at the 3 month follow up appointment we will take your post-operative photos.
What types of activities should I avoid after my surgery? And for how long?
You will not be able to drive until you are no longer taking narcotic pain medication. You should avoid strenuous activities for at least 2 weeks. Walking and mild stretching is okay. You should avoid submerging the incisions under any type of water for at least 6 weeks.
When can I bathe and apply cosmetics?
You will be able to shower and shampoo your hair 48 hours after the surgery. Cosmetics can be applied after stitches are removed from incisions. Stitch removal typically takes place 7-10 days after surgery.
What are your payment terms?
We require a deposit of $1,000-$1,500 up front to secure your surgery date and time. The remaining balance must be paid in full no later than two weeks before your scheduled surgery date.
